Layer: Permitted Mine Boundaries (ID: 0)

Name: Permitted Mine Boundaries

Display Field: PER_NAME

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: A collection of approved permitted mine boundaries for surface and underground mines in Kentucky. Includes western and eastern coal fields, for active, inactive, and released permits. Type Status of mine is designated by the Type_Flag field - codes are ACT for Active Mine, INACT for Inactive Mine, TRNS for transferred permit number, and XREF for record not found. Active mines refer to mines with a valid permit only and does not mean that the mine is actively producing coal. this division does not track operations only environmental permit status. Inactive mines are permits that have been reclaimed, forfeited, or abandoned. Transferred means that the this records contains an old permit number that has been replaced by a current paermit number - this occurs when mine ownership changes - in this case the shapefile geometries will be duplicates of the current permit - for users who wish to see only current permit boundaries records with this code should be suppressed. XREF means that mining of some sort occurred at this location but before records were kept starting in 1977 with the SMCRA act
